The Indian Army’s Southern Command hosted a two-day “JAI se VIJAI" Seminar 2026 in Pune, bringing together senior military officers, veterans, scientists, defence industry leaders, start-ups, and academics to deliberate on the future preparedness of India’s Armed Forces.
The seminar revolved around the concept of JAI—Jointness, Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance) and Innovation—described as the pathway to building an integrated and technologically empowered force aligned with India’s long-term security vision.
Opening the seminar, Southern Command chief Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth said the changing nature of warfare demands forces that are integrated and innovation-driven. He noted that modern conflicts increasingly span land, air, maritime, cyber and space domains, making joint operational capability critical. Calling JAI a practical framework rather than a slogan, he said it would guide how the Armed Forces train, equip and operate in the coming decades.
Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan, in his keynote address, emphasised that future readiness would depend on technology absorption and institutional transformation. He stressed that joint operations, indigenous capability and faster innovation cycles are essential to maintain operational advantage.
The seminar featured three thematic sessions. The first focused on operational integration and cross-domain synergy, highlighting the need for institutionalised joint structures and coordinated operational planning. The second session discussed strengthening indigenous defence capability through research, manufacturing ecosystems, and resilient supply chains, with greater collaboration between the Armed Forces, DRDO, industry, and start-ups.
The final session examined military-civil fusion as a force multiplier, stressing cooperation among government agencies, academia, and private technology sectors to accelerate defence innovation and capability development.
Participants engaged in interactive discussions and generated recommendations, including interoperable systems, integrated planning frameworks, and faster adoption of indigenous technologies.
Southern Command said the seminar helped build a shared understanding of future force transformation priorities and reaffirmed its commitment to professional military dialogue to keep India’s Armed Forces prepared for emerging multi-domain security challenges.
