India Reaction on Iran Attack: EAM S Jaishankar tweets, "Spoke with Israeli FM Gideon Sa’ar this afternoon. Reiterate India’s call for dialogue and diplomacy to de-escalate tensions."
Earlier, India expressed its concern at the developments in Iran and the Gulf region and said dialogue and diplomacy should be pursued to de-escalate tensions and address underlying issues.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states must be respected. The statement also urged Indians abroad to follow instructions in advisories.
"India is deeply concerned at the recent developments in Iran and the Gulf region. We urge all sides to exercise restraint, avoid escalation, and prioritise the safety of civilians. Dialogue and diplomacy should be pursued to de-escalate tensions and address underlying issues. Sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states must be respected. Our Missions in the region are in touch with Indian nationals and have issued appropriate advisories asking them to remain vigilant, stay in contact with the Missions, and follow local security guidance," the statement read.
Earlier on Saturday, US President Donald Trump confirmed that the US has begun "major combat operations" in Iran after Israel also said it had launched missile attacks against the country, as per Al Jazeera.
Following this, Iran retaliated, targeting Israel and US assets in multiple Gulf states. Multiple explosions have been heard in Iran's capital, Tehran, while blasts have also been reported in several other locations across the country.
Several countries across the region have shut their airspace amid the exchange of attacks.
The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi issued an advisory for Indian students in the UAE to avoid unnecessary travel. The advisory was one of the many issued by Indian missions in the Middle East.
"In view of the current regional situation, all Indian nationals in the United Arab Emirates are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, take due care, remain vigilant, follow safety guidelines and advisories as and when issued by the UAE authorities and the Embassy. The Embassy of India, Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai are continuing to function normally and will issue updates as necessary," the advisory read.

Jammu and Kashmir Students Association requests PM Modi to ensure safety of J&K students in Iran
The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA), meanwhile, has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking immediate intervention. The association has requested the government to ensure the safety of students and arrange evacuation if necessary.
The letter mentioned that on 28 February 2026, the Israel Defence Forces carried out major attacks in Tehran and other areas, which made the situation very serious. Airspace restrictions and emergency security measures have increased risks for foreign nationals.
JKSA National Convenor Nasir Khuehami told ANI that around 2,000 students from Jammu and Kashmir were in Iran. Out of them, about 900 students have already returned to India, but nearly 1,100 students are still stuck there due to the ongoing conflict and travel restrictions.
"Families of the remaining students are extremely worried and are hoping the central government will take urgent steps to ensure their safe return and protect their academic future," he said.
