Facing a worrying slide down the ATP rankings after another injury-hit season, British No. 2 Jack Draper has made a dramatic change behind the scenes — he’s bringing in Andy Murray to help steady his career.
Draper confirmed on Tuesday that he had parted ways with coach Jamie Delgado after just six months together, with Murray now set to join his team throughout the upcoming grass-court season.
“I am very grateful for everything Jamie Delgado has done for me over these past six months," Draper said in a statement. “He is a world-class coach and a great man.
“In the interim, I will continue to be supported by the excellent team at the LTA, with the addition of Andy Murray, who will be supporting me throughout the grass-court season."
The move instantly turns heads across British tennis.
Murray, a three-time Grand Slam singles champion and former world No. 1, only recently dipped his toes into coaching following a short-lived six-month partnership with Novak Djokovic that ended last year.
Now, he returns to the circuit in a very different role — tasked with helping one of Britain’s brightest talents rediscover momentum and find some desperately-needed stability.
The 24-year-old has endured a brutal 2026 campaign dominated by injuries, withdrawals and frustrating early exits. After missing months with an arm problem, Draper’s comeback never truly got going. He pulled out of both the Monte-Carlo Masters and Madrid Open before a knee tendon issue ultimately ruled him out of the French Open as well.
The setbacks have seen Draper tumble down the rankings to world No. 50, a sharp drop for a player once viewed as Britain’s next major contender after Murray.
Murray and Draper already know each other well from their time representing Great Britain in the Davis Cup, and the expectation is that Murray’s experience, tactical sharpness and mental resilience could prove invaluable during a crucial stretch of Draper’s career.
