The State government has officially constituted a high-level working group to transition the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram (CET) into a constituent college of APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU).
The move follows a recent announcement in the State Budget, in which the United Democratic Front (UDF) also proposes to upgrade the Government Medical College Hospital, Thrissur, into a constituent college of the Kerala University of Health Sciences.
The panel comprises Kerala State Higher Education Council Vice-Chairperson Achuthsankar S. Nair, KTU Vice-Chancellor Ciza Thomas (or her nominee), Dean (Academic) and Registrar of KTU, Director of Technical Education, and CET Principal. The Principal Secretary of Higher Education or a nominated Additional Secretary will serve as the convener of the committee.
The working group, constituted by the Higher Education department, is tasked with preparing a detailed proposal and order to transfer personnel, assets and liabilities. The government has fixed a strict timeline by granting the panel a window of one month to identify all prerequisites and draft the required rules under the KTU’s statutory framework to finalise the transition.
