Maharashtra extends PMFBY enrolment deadline to Aug 10; 61.82 lakh farmers registered so far

The Maharashtra government has extended the last date for enrolment under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) from July 31 to August 10, with the scheme seeing 61.82 lakh farmer registrations so far, Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharane said on Saturday.

The extension was granted as some farmers could not complete the enrolment process due to technical issues, pending documentation and other personal reasons, Bharane said in a statement.

He urged farmers to take advantage of the extended deadline, particularly in view of the El Nino conditions, and ensure they are covered under the crop insurance scheme.

According to the agriculture department, 61.82 lakh farmers have enrolled in the scheme so far. It includes 1.02 lakh in Konkan, 3.33 lakh in Nashik, Pune 6.08 lakh, Kolhapur 2.40 lakh, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar 13.25 lakh, Latur 2.43 lakh, Amravati 6.92 lakh and 4.53 lakh in Nagpur.

The minister said Marathwada recorded the highest participation in the scheme, while Konkan registered the lowest response.

"Not a single eligible farmer should be deprived of the benefits of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. Farmers who have not yet applied should make use of the extended deadline and complete the process before August 10. Farmers can also apply through PMFBY Crop Insurance App or the official PMFBY website," Bharane said.

He said the scheme provides financial protection to farmers against crop losses caused by natural calamities, excessive rainfall, drought, floods, hailstorms and other weather-related events.

The agriculture department appealed to crop loan borrowers to contact their respective banks, while non-loanee farmers have been asked to submit their applications through the official PMFBY portal or the nearest Common Service Centre before the revised deadline.
