In a significant development in the murder case of AAP leader Lucky Oberoi, Punjab Police arrested the key accused after a brief shootout in Amritsar on Saturday. As per the police, the accused was arrested in Amritsar’s Khasa area, and a .30-bore pistol was recovered from his possession

The accused, identified as Shaminder Singh, is a resident of Jalandhar’s Mithapur. Deputy Inspector General of Police (Border Range) Sandeep Goel shared details of the arrest and told the reporters that Singh was found waiting on a two-wheeler a short distance from where Oberoi was shot outside a Jalandhar gurdwara on Friday.

AAP leader Lucky Oberoi (43) was shot dead at around 7:30 am on Friday. The incident took place outside the gurdwara in Jalandhar’s Model Town area, shortly after he exited the shrine. He was shot by an unidentified assailant.

As per a report by PTI, the DIG mentioned that the accused had known Oberoi for the past 10-12 years. He assured that strict action would be taken against those who orchestrated the shooting.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Amritsar Rural, Suhail Qasim Mir, said the accused was on the two-wheeler when the police signalled him to stop. The suspect tried to make a U-turn but lost control and fell.

In an attempt to flee, the accused opened fire on the police team, prompting the officers to act in self-defence. In the ensuing exchange, the suspect was injured and subsequently arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment.

During preliminary questioning, the suspect made significant disclosures, leading to further raids and follow-up actions, the SSP added.

As per the sources cited by PTI, police are also investigating the involvement of Oberoi’s missing servant in his murder case. A Hyundai Creta car spotted in CCTV footage is under scrutiny.

A case has been filed against two named suspects, including a foreign-based gangster, and two unidentified individuals. Police suspect personal enmity as the motive behind the daylight killing, officials stated.

Gangster Jograj Singh alias Joga Pholriwal, who has claimed responsibility for the murder in an unverified social media post, along with Dalbira and two unidentified individuals, have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act, officials confirmed.

The FIR was lodged at the Division 6 police station in the Jalandhar Commissionerate based on a complaint from the victim’s family.
