Kolkata Police apprehended a man for allegedly threatening a suicide bomb attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari “with the help of Al Qaeda", according to police officials.
The man, identified as 27-year-old Hasnain Iqbal, was arrested on Friday night after a joint investigation by the cyber cell and the Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police. He reportedly sent a threatening email to the Bhabanipur Police Station on May 14.
Assuming the identity of a woman, Iqbal claimed that a suicide attack would be carried out on the CM with the help of Al Qaeda. An investigation was immediately initiated by the cyber wing and the STF, Additional CP-IV of Kolkata Police, V Solomon Nesakumar, told news agency PTI.

Where Was The Suspect Located?
During the probe, investigators traced the email trail to Hasnain Iqbal, a resident of Golam Abbas Lane in Garden Reach. The accused later admitted to sending the email during questioning.
Iqbal, a high-school graduate with expertise in IT, was skilled in creating IP addresses and related technical tools. During interrogation, officers recovered the mobile phone used to send the email.
“Preliminary investigation suggests that the woman in whose name the email was sent was known to the accused. We suspect that the intention was to harass or implicate her and her family," Nesakumar said. During questioning, Iqbal reportedly admitted that he had personal enmity with the woman and was trying to frame her.
The arrest came days after two online content creators were arrested in Dinhata for allegedly posting an “offensive and derogatory" video against Adhikari. West Bengal Police said no individual was permitted to upload or circulate content containing abusive language or material that could hurt religious or social sentiments, warning of strict legal action against violators.
