Rani Mukerji made her return to the big screen with her cop action drama ‘Mardaani 3’, which has put up a steady performance at the box office despite facing tough competition.

'Mardaani' week-wise box office collections

The film that completed nine days in theatres, has now crossed the Rs 30 crore mark in India net collections.

During its run, ‘Mardaani 3’ has managed to hold its ground at the ticket windows and find its audience , even as it clashed with the big-budget war drama ‘Border 2’.

The film closed its first week with an impressive India net collection of Rs 26.3 crore.The second week began on an average note, with the film earning an estimated Rs 1.85 crore on Friday. It then witnessed a noticeable jump on Saturday, collecting an estimated Rs 2.75 crore.

With these earnings, the film’s total India net collection has now reached approximately Rs 30.90 crore.

'Mardaani 2' remains highest earning film in franchise

With this milestone, ‘Mardaani 3’ has come close to matching the lifetime box office collection of the original ‘Mardaani’, which was released in 2014 and earned an estimated Rs 35.65 crore net in India. The franchise’s highest-grossing instalment remains ‘Mardaani 2’, which went on to collect Rs 47.35 crore during its theatrical run.

The film also happens to be Rani's second-highest earning film of all time at the box office, second to only 'Talaash' which earned Rs 93.61 crore.

About 'Mardaani 3'

‘Mardaani 3’ marks the third instalment of Hindi cinema’s most successful solo female-led franchise, which has consistently garnered both critical acclaim and audience appreciation over the past decade. Rani once again reprises her role as fearless police officer Shivani Shivaji Roy in what is described as a 'dark, deadly and brutal chapter' in the ‘Mardaani’ series.

'Mardaani 3' vs 'O Romeo' and 'Wuthering Heights'

Going forward, the film is expected to continue its good run, but not without facing added competition at the ticket windows with the release of Shahid Kapoor's 'O Romeo' and the Hollywood release of Margot Robbie's 'Wuthering Heights' over the Valentine's Day weekend.
