It’s fitting that during Women’s History Month, Megan Thee Stallion will making history of her own when she makes her Broadway debut in March as Moulin Rouge! The Musical’s Zidler. The multi-hyphenate talent is set to succeed Bob the Drag Queen in the Tony award-winning musical and cement her place as the first woman to play the eccentric cabaret owner on Broadway or any worldwide production of the iconic story.
The star shared the following in a statement:
"Stepping onto the Broadway stage and joining the Moulin Rouge! The Musical team is an absolute honor. I’ve always believed in pushing myself creatively and theatre is definitely a new opportunity that I’m excited to embrace. Broadway demands a different level of discipline, preparation, and storytelling, but I’m up for the challenge and can’t wait for the Hotties to see a new side of me."
Megan Thee Stallion has taken the Hotties, her devoted fanbase, through every new phase of her career, bringing them along as she pursues interests outside of rap and introducing them to ventures that align with her values. Her global community of fans are primed to descend on New York City come March with a few seeing her casting as a step toward the rapper winning a Tony one day.
How To Purchase Tickets To Moulin Rouge
Tickets can be purchased on Broadway.com. The starting price, at publication, is $67.99. Megan Thee Stallion will dazzle the Great White Way beginning Tuesday, March 24 until her last performance on Sunday, May 17. She’s expected to star in every show during her run with exception to Saturday, May 2’s performances.
What To Know
- Runtime: 2 hours and 45 minutes including an intermission.
- Age rating and restrictions: The play is recommended for audiences 12 and up. Children under the age of four are not permitted. Can-Can seating is not permitted for attendees under the age of 12.
- Health and content warning: The play contains gunfire, herbal cigarette smoke, strobe lights and some adult themes.
- Notice about Can-Can seating: Attendees in this area must arrive 15 minutes before the play starts. Management has sole discretion over seating. The area does not have accessible seats.
Megan Thee Stallion’s Acting Career
The music maven’s professional credits as an actress have mostly been guest star appearances as herself with exception to her roles in Dicks: The Musical, Good Girls, and most recently Denise, Arthur Tobin’s (Daniel Radcliffe) love interest in The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins.
Megan Thee Stallion also has an anime series in the works. She’s collaborating with Carl Jones, the executive producer of The Boondocks, on Hotties. The star did some voice work for her character in February. She’s promised her show will be the “caviar of anime,” noting that there will be a story arc and character development for the eponymous fly ladies that make up the cast.
Based on her description, Hotties is going to be an action-packed, high octane series on Prime Video that opens with murder and mayhem.
Megan Thee Stallion’s Broadway debut will serve as her first theatre credit.
