After a three-year absence, Mercedes-Benz is ready to bring back its premium V-Class multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) to the Indian market, with an official launch slated for March 3, 2026 in Mumbai.
The move marks a renewed push by Mercedes-Benz India to strengthen its foothold in the luxury segment, particularly among affluent car buyers and chauffeur-driven vehicle customers. The V-Class last sold in India until 2022 is expected to sit at the top end of the brand’s range.
The upcoming V-Class carries forward the familiar, upright MPV silhouette that blends practicality with prestige. Its clean lines, sculpted bonnet and prominent Mercedes grille give it a presence that’s both commanding and refined. Mercedes-Benz offers this model globally in two wheelbase lengths, a 3,200 mm long and a 3,430 mm extra-long with multiple seating layouts ranging from traditional 8-seaters to a plush 6-seat configuration with executive captain chairs.
Inside the cabin, luxury isn’t just a word, it's an experience. Dual 12.3-inch digital screens dominate the dashboard, blending infotainment and instrument functions, while the rear seating options highlight comfort for long journeys. In the top-tier layouts seen overseas, passengers enjoy power-adjustable seats with massage, ventilation, reclining backrests and footrests a “first-class on wheels” feel that suits both family travel and executive transport.
Under the hood, the V-Class typically pairs a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with a nine-speed automatic transmission in global markets. There are two power outputs: a 220d producing 163 hp and 380 Nm of torque, and a more potent 300d version with 237 hp and 500 Nm. At this stage, Mercedes-Benz India hasn’t confirmed exactly which engine variants will be offered locally.
Industry estimates suggest the V-Class could be priced between Rs 1 crore and Rs 1.2 crore (ex-showroom) in India, positioning it against other luxury MPVs like the Toyota Vellfire, Lexus LM and the newly emerging MG M9.
Mercedes-Benz’s decision to bring back the V-Class aligns with growing demand for spacious, comfort-centric vehicles that go beyond traditional SUVs and sedans. With more luxury buyers prioritising space, exclusivity and a premium ride experience, the V-Class aims to expand choice in an evolving segment where chauffeur-driven cars and high-end family MPVs are gaining traction.
