A 50-year-old man died and another was critically injured after a car allegedly driven by a 17-year-old minor crashed into them after hitting seven parked motorcycles in Hyderabad.

A 50-year-old man was killed and another sustained critical injuries after a car allegedly driven by a 17-year-old minor went out of control and rammed into them near Karmika Nagar under the Madhura Nagar police station limits in Hyderabad.

According to police, the incident occurred when the minor, a student from Borabanda, was allegedly driving a rented Maruti Baleno despite not being proficient behind the wheel. The vehicle had reportedly been rented by his 19-year-old friend, and the three occupants had hired it for a trip.

During the drive, the minor allegedly took control of the car. Police said he was unable to handle the vehicle, causing it to veer off course. Before hitting the pedestrians, the car first crashed into seven motorcycles parked along the roadside.

After striking the parked vehicles, the Baleno crossed onto the opposite side of the road and rammed into two men, identified as Raj Kumar (50) and Prabhakar (35).

Both victims suffered serious injuries in the impact and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, Raj Kumar succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. Prabhakar continues to be in critical condition and is receiving medical care, police said.

Following the incident, police launched an investigation and took all three occupants of the car into custody. A case has been registered, and officials are probing the circumstances under which the vehicle was rented and how the minor came to be driving it.

Investigators are also examining the sequence of events that led to the crash, including the role of the two adults accompanying the minor. Police said further investigation is underway.

The incident has once again raised concerns over minors driving vehicles without valid licences and the responsibility of those who allow or facilitate such acts, particularly in cases involving rented vehicles.
