The cabinet briefing came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi pushed for financial austerity in response to the escalating West Asia crisis.

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday took four big decisions to help Indian farmers and boost the economy at a time of global instability due to the West Asia conflict. The decisions include MSP announcement for Kharif 2026-27 season, coal gasification and a semi-high-speed double line.
“Everyone is aware of the kind of geopolitical situation we are facing today. In such circumstances, we have to take all the necessary decisions to become self-reliant," said Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw while chairing the cabinet meeting today.
