MVD cracks down on erring bike riders in Kochi

The ​Motor Vehicles department (MVD) has taken action against bike riders who allegedly created noise pollution and caused panic at night in Kochi.

​E-challans were issued against erring riders. The violators were slapped with a total fine of ₹2,20,500. Enforcement RTO Biju Isaac said strict action, including cancellation of licence and vehicle registration certificate, would be taken against those who continued to violate rules.

The lightning inspection, which began on Friday night (July 31, 2026) continued till the early hours of Saturday (August 1, 2026). The checks were held at Stadium Link Road, Queen’s Walkway, Marine Drive, Kadavanthra, and Panampilly Nagar.

Of the 80 vehicles inspected, 35 had banned silencers, while 20 had other violations, including concealed number plates and modifications that violated safety standards.

Officials said the inspections would continue in the days to come.
