New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday clarified that it had not ordered any status quo with regard to 108 hectares of grazing land allotted to Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone by the Gujarat government, as claimed by villagers from the Kachchh region of the state.

A bench of Justices JK Maheshwari and Atul S Chandurkar rejected various clarification applications filed by villagers claiming that the apex court, while pronouncing an oral order on January 27, directed status quo on the land and asked the Gujarat High Court to treat their petition independently. There was no mention of status quo in the written order and the case was shown as disposed of from the HC.

"We are of the view that the draft order dictated in court has to be subject to corrections and enhancement, removal of any accidental inclusions or exclusions due to inadvertence, prior to signing, if not anything else, but out of practical requirements," the SC said. It imposed a symbolic cost of ₹2,000 each on the villagers who approached the court.
