Nollywood actor Alexx Ebuko passes away at 40 after battling with cancer

Alexx Ekubo, the acclaimed Nigerian actor known for his roles in romantic films and humanitarian advocacy, passed away at age 40 on May 12, 2026. The award-winning artist took his last breath in Lagos hospital after a discreet battle with cancer.

Many prominent members of Nollywood penned down tributes and kind words for the actor.

Nollywood mourns the demise of Alexx Ebuko

Ekubo’s demise was confirmed by his colleagues Funke Akindele, Bolanle Ninalowo, and Godwin Nnadiekwe on Tuesday, according to Punch. Akindele wrote heartfelt words on her Instagram story, “hmmmmmm [three candle emojis] Rest in peace Alex. i tried to reach out. to see you one more time, but I guess you knew best. may your kind soul rest in peace,” before adding about fond memories, “ore mi like you fondly called me, i will always remember and cherish the good times we shared together.

REST IN PEACE ALEX.” Meanwhile, Ninalowo also shared sorrowful emotions on social media, “Rest on, Alex. May God heal your family and us all.” Furthermore, Nnadiekwe claimed that he was struggling to find words as Ebuko’s passing had deeply broken him. Adding that the late actor was a rare soul in Nollywood, he stated, “To think you already prepared your Will — It’s heartbroken, I can’t quite describe. Rest well, my friend.”
