The main accused in the shocking murder of a 24-year-old MBA student in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore appeared visibly unrepentant and dismissive while interacting with reporters, even as investigators continued to piece together the sequence of events in the case.
In a video of his interaction with reporters, the accused, identified as Piyush Dhamanodia, can be seen surrounded by police personnel as mediapersons repeatedly questioned him about the killing.
Despite being asked directly why he allegedly murdered the woman, described by police as his classmate and girlfriend, the accused avoided giving clear answers and maintained a calm demeanour.
Notably, he was seen carrying a faint smile on his face while responding to reporters, drawing sharp reactions from those present.
When asked, “What happened? Why did you kill the girl? You were her lover, why did you hit her?" the accused replied, “Nothing happened, leave it. Nothing happened."
As reporters continued pressing him, asking whether he felt any regret for his actions and reminding him that he had attacked “someone’s daughter," the accused again refused to express remorse.
Instead, he said, “I will tell everyone… I will tell you. Time will come."
The Indore Police brought the accused to his rented flat in the Dwarkapuri area, where the victim’s body had earlier been recovered, for reconstruction of the crime.
Station House Officer (SHO) of Dwarkapuri Police Station, Manish Mishra, said investigators were verifying the information provided by the accused during interrogation.
“Whatever information the accused provided during interrogation, we verified it by bringing him to the crime scene. A knife has also been recovered and seized," Mishra said.
In a separate statement to ANI, the officer added that the accused had shared detailed information about the incident, following which police prepared a memorandum and sought his police remand.
“We found a letter in his purse written after the murder, which mentioned his girlfriend’s killing. He admitted to misunderstandings between them," Mishra said, adding that investigators have received a short post-mortem report and further inquiry will continue based on forensic science laboratory findings.
THE CASE BACKGROUND
The victim, a 24-year-old MBA student, was allegedly murdered inside the accused’s rented accommodation after a dispute linked to their relationship.
Police said the accused suspected that the woman was in contact with another man.
Investigators allege that he strangled her following an argument before fleeing the city. The body was discovered on February 13 after neighbours alerted police about a foul smell coming from the locked flat.
The accused was later arrested from Mumbai’s Andheri area on February 14.
Police officials told PTI that during interrogation, the accused allegedly abused the body after the killing and later travelled to areas near Mumbai, where he performed occult rituals, claiming he wanted to communicate with the woman’s spirit.
Items connected to the rituals were recovered during the investigation.
Authorities also said the accused allegedly used the victim’s mobile phone after the murder to circulate previously recorded intimate videos in a college WhatsApp group, allegedly to defame her.
Police said digital evidence, recovered materials and forensic findings are being analysed as part of the ongoing investigation.
Officials maintain that further details will emerge after examination of the FSL report and continued custodial interrogation.
