Fuel prices across India remain elevated after the Centre increased petrol and diesel rates by Rs 3 per litre on Friday, marking the first major revision in over four years. The latest hike has pushed petrol prices close to Rs 98 per litre in the national capital, while diesel rates have also climbed sharply.
In Delhi, petrol is now retailing at Rs 97.77 per litre, up from Rs 94.77 earlier. Diesel prices in the city have risen from Rs 87.67 to Rs 90.67 per litre.
The increase comes at a time when global energy markets are witnessing heightened volatility due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Supply concerns intensified after disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most crucial oil transit routes. Brent crude prices have also remained under pressure amid the continuing tensions involving the US, Israel and Iran since late February.

- Mumbai: Rs 106.68 per litre
- Kolkata: Rs 108.70 per litre
- Chennai: Rs 103.67 per litre
The sharp jump in international crude oil prices has directly impacted domestic fuel rates. Since the escalation of geopolitical tensions in West Asia, crude prices have surged by more than 50 per cent globally.

The latest fuel price revision comes amid growing calls for energy conservation as uncertainty in global oil supply chains continues to affect crude markets worldwide.
