PM MITRA Park

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated India’s first operational PM MITRA Park in Warangal, Telangana, marking a major step in the government’s push to strengthen the country’s textile sector. The project has been developed at a cost of Rs 1695.54 crore and is expected to emerge as a large manufacturing and employment hub.

But what exactly is the PM MITRA Park?PM MITRA stands for 'Prime Minister Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel.' The scheme has been launched by the central government to create large-scale textile parks with modern infrastructure and seamless connectivity under one integrated setup.

The idea behind the initiative is to bring the complete textile value chain together at a single location, from raw material processing and fibre production to manufacturing, apparel, export and logistics. The scheme works on the government’s '5F' vision: Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign.

The Warangal PM MITRA Park, spread across 1327 acres, is expected to attract investments worth more than Rs 6000 crore. According to the Ministry of Textiles, nearly 62 per cent of the park has already been allotted to industries.

The project is also expected to create more than 24400 jobs, while thousands of employment opportunities have already been generated during the development phase. Officials believe the park will significantly boost employment opportunities for women in the textile sector.

The government has approved a total of seven PM MITRA Parks across India. These parks are being developed in Telangana, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.

One of the key highlights of the PM MITRA model is its integrated infrastructure. The Warangal facility has been equipped with internal road networks, a dedicated power substation and assured water supply. It also offers connectivity to railway routes and seaports, helping textile businesses improve logistics and exports.

Companies setting up units in these parks will also receive Competitive Incentive Support under the PM MITRA scheme. In addition, the Centre has allocated Rs 300 crore for each park to attract investors and support industrial development.

With the launch of the first functional PM MITRA Park, the government is aiming to position India as a stronger global textile manufacturing and export destination.
