Prabhas in The Raja Saab.
The trailer of Maruthi’s action fantasy The Raja Saab, starring Prabhas in the lead role, was dropped last month. However, there are still three months to go before the film sees light of the day on January 9, 2026. Earlier, it was scheduled to release on December 5 this year. But now, it’s been pushed by a month.
Producer TG Vishwa Prasad of People Media Factory has now opened up on what’s caused the delay. “I can name a few people who really put us in trouble. I’ve already named one for Karthikeya 2, and another for The Raja Saab, who was really in extortion mode. He made us delay our movie because he didn’t do any of the work until October 2024. We were supposed to come in April 2025,” Prasad told NTV Telugu.
Chandoo Mondeti’s 2022 action adventure film Karthikeya 2, starring Nikhil Siddhartha, was announced back in 2017. However, it released in cinemas only in 2022, but turned out to be a hit despite the long delay. Also co-produced by People Media Factory, the sequel to Karthikeya (2014) was also pushed by a month on producer Dil Raju’s request to avoid its clash with his film, Vikram Kumar’s romantic drama Thank You, starring Naga Chaitanya.

Now, Prasad has blamed the VFX supervisor, who Redditors believe is Kamal Kannan, for the delay behind The Raja Saab. “He didn’t work on a single shot and just kept everything with him, taking a monthly fee for his entourage and team. He threatened the director that he would quit if he said something. And this person has a habit of doing this. He was recently kicked out of SS Rajamouli’s film. Since he got busy with Pushpa 2, he didn’t do any of our work. Someday, I’ll show him what the fee is for his extortion,” added Prasad.
Sukumar’s action thriller Pushpa 2: The Rule, starring Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna, released last year and earned over Rs 1200 crore at the Indian box office. Meanwhile, SS Rajamouli is currently shooting his next action adventure movie with Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
Earlier this year, ahead of the launch on June 16, the teaser of The Raja Saab got leaked online. Taking note of the leaked videos, the film’s official handle posted on X that action will be taken against those posting leaked content from the teaser online. The film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, and Ridhi Kumar in prominent roles.

Billed as a pan-India release in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam, The Raja Saab is touted as a horror comedy. Prabhas will also be seen in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit and the sequel of Nag Ashwin’s dystopian sci-fi fantasy Kalki 2898 AD. Prior to The Raja Saab, he’ll be seen in Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Epic.
