Rahul Dev Recalls Not ‘Getting Work’ After Comeback Following Wife’s Death: ‘Bollywood Had Forgotten Me’

Rahul Dev recalled struggling to find work after his comeback following his wife’s death, saying Bollywood had moved on and forgotten him.

It was in 2009 when Rahul Dev stepped away from acting following the demise of his wife Rina Dev, becoming the caregiver of their son Siddharth as a single parent. Now, in a recent conversation, the actor opened up about the struggles he faced after returning to work.

In a conversation with Hindi Rush, Rahul Dev credited his spiritual guru for helping him overcome the challenges and called it an extremely difficult phase, saying, “If Guruji hadn’t come into my life in 2013, things would have been very difficult for me. I had no understanding of parenting. My wife died suddenly and I became a single parent to an 11–12-year-old boy. That phase was extremely challenging."

Sharing that it was his Guruji who advised him to resume his film career, he said, “When the call for Bigg Boss came, I didn’t think I would do it. But Guruji told me, ‘Go, you have to start somewhere.’ That’s how things slowly began again."

Revealing how people had almost forgotten him, Rahul admitted he was not getting work and said, “When I came back, I wasn’t getting work. I had done 80–81 films, but after four-and-a-half years away, it felt like nobody even knew me anymore. People had forgotten me."

He further added, “I can’t blame anyone because times change. I never like blaming people. I always feel the important thing is to learn from experiences. I’m not bitter that I did so much for the industry and this happened. The industry has also given me a lot. Leaving was my choice because of the circumstances, and I have no regrets."

Rahul Dev tied the knot with Rina Dev in 1998, and the couple had a son, Siddharth. His life took a major turn in 2009 after Rina passed away due to cancer, following which he stepped away from films for nearly four years to raise his son as a single father.

Last year, Rahul faced yet another setback with the death of his brother, actor Mukul Dev, at the age of 54. On the personal front, Rahul Dev is currently in a relationship with model-actor Mugdha Godse.
