Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has said that Railways had not only strengthened the Indian economy but also contributed to the overall development of the country.

He was inaugurating a programme organised to mark the inauguration of the renvoated Alnavar station developed under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme in Dharwad district on Friday. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the station.

“Railways is focusing on providing world-class passenger services, accelerating railway electrification, and modernising train operations,” Mr. Gehlot said.

Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Prahlad Joshi said the station was now equipped with lifts, foot overbridges, facilities for persons with disabilities apart from various modern amenities.

The Minister said that along with redevelopment of stations, Railways had taken up development of railway overbridges and underbridges.

Mr. Joshi said that the country now topped the world in terms of railway track expansion, while railway electrification had been completed across the network.

Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti, MLC Pradeep Shettar, Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Snehal R., General Manager of South Western Railway Ananth P., senior Railway officials and others were present.

Alnavar station has been comprehensively redeveloped at a cost of ₹17.2 crore and several new amenities and facilities have been added. Originally built during the British era, the station building has now been expanded with a façade reflecting the region’s art and cultural heritage.
