Premier League giants United solidified their position in the top four of the English top-flight on Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Tottenham at Old Trafford. Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes played pivotal roles in helping Michael Carrick’s side secure their fourth consecutive win since he stepped in as caretaker following Ruben Amorim’s departure.

Fernandes, who has been United’s talisman since joining six years ago, marked his 200th goal involvement with his 105th goal for the Red Devils in the 81st minute, ensuring the victory.

With the strike, Fernandes became the second quickest player in the history of the club to get to the 200 G/A in just 314 games surpassing the iconic Cristiano Ronaldo, who required 339 games to do so. Only the legendary Wayne Rooney got to the mark before the Portuguese maestro as the former England star needed just 295 matches.

David Beckham comes in fourth on the list getting to the coveted mark in 393 fixtures, followed by Ryan Giggs, who required 424 outings.

Mbeumo expertly slotted the ball past Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, concluding a well-executed set-piece routine from a United corner. Carrick’s team capitalised on their numerical advantage, maintaining their lead going into halftime.

United’s performance was marked by moments of brilliance, demonstrating their strength against Thomas Frank’s side. This victory added to Carrick’s previous successes against arch-rivals Manchester City, Premier League Champions-elect Arsenal, and Fulham since he took charge.

With this win, United’s season tally reached 44 points from 25 matches, comprising 12 wins, 8 draws, and 5 defeats. Meanwhile, Tottenham remain in 14th place with 29 points this season.
