NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar on Saturday said he has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the January 28 plane crash that killed Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
In a post on social media, the Karjat-Jamkhed legislator said he had emailed the Home Minister, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu, and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), attaching a detailed presentation outlining his concerns related to the crash.
Sharing copies of the correspondence, Rohit Pawar said his demand for a probe was not politically motivated but aimed at ensuring that the truth behind the accident is established beyond doubt.
“It is important that the actual sequence of events is placed before the people so that there is no room for speculation or suspicion," he said.
Earlier, at a press conference on February 10, Rohit Pawar had claimed there were grounds to suspect sabotage in the fatal air crash and called for a deeper examination of all possible angles.
The crash occurred on January 28 when a chartered Learjet 45 carrying Ajit Pawar crashed while attempting to land at Baramati airport in Pune district.
The aircraft came down near the runway threshold, killing all five people on board.
The deceased included Pawar, his personal security officer, a flight attendant, and the pilot and co-pilot. Pawar was travelling from Mumbai to Baramati to campaign for the Zilla Parishad elections.
Meanwhile, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) and the DGCA are probing the incident.
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said on February 7 that investigators had recovered the aircraft’s black box and that its data is currently being analysed.
Authorities have not yet released details on the cause of the crash, and officials said the investigation is ongoing.
