Rory McIlroy Arrives In India To Take Part In Country's Richest Professional Golf Event In History

Golf icon Rory McIlroy arrived in India on Monday to a warm reception ahead of the USD 4 million DP World India Championship, the richest professional golf event ever held in the country.

McIlroy received a garland welcome upon his arrival in the national capital for the tournament, which begins on Thursday.

The cream of world golf, including top Ryder Cup stars, has assembled in Delhi for this prestigious event.

With the highest prize money ever for professional golf on Indian soil, the DPWIC will be held at the Delhi Golf Club.

The major attraction is undoubtedly five-time Major winner and reigning Masters champion McIlroy, who achieved the career Grand Slam this year.

Tommy Fleetwood, who played a pivotal role in Europe’s victory over the United States in the Ryder Cup, is also part of the star-studded lineup.

Indian stars will be led by established players like Anirban Lahiri, whose last international win was at this very club in 2015, Shiv Kapur, and Chiragh Kumar, all of whom have won international titles at this course.

McIlroy and Fleetwood are joined by Shane Lowry and Viktor Hovland, also Ryder Cup stars, alongside their team captain, the two-time winning skipper Luke Donald.

Adding further glitter to the field are former Open winner Brian Harman and Ben Griffin, a two-time PGA Tour winner and member of the US 2025 Ryder Cup team.

Besides stalwarts like Lahiri, Kapur, and Chiragh, current Indian stars such as Shubhankar Sharma, Veer Ahlawat, and Arjun Prasad will also be in focus.

Excitement is high within the golfing fraternity, and the club along with DPWIC has made excellent arrangements to engage the fans.
