Delhi Lakshmi Yojana: The Delhi government is expected to soon launch its flagship financial assistance scheme for women in the national capital. Originally introduced by the previous AAP government, the programme has been rebranded by the Rekha Gupta-led BJP government from Mahila Samriddhi Yojana to Delhi Lakshmi Yojana.
The state's Women and Child Development (WCD) department, headed by CM Gupta herself, will implement the scheme.
Citing sources, an earlier PTI report stated that the scheme will provide Rs 2,500 per month to an estimated 17 lakh women from economically weaker sections (EWS) in the national capital starting this year. The government said in the statement that the initiative aims to enhance financial independence, self-reliance and dignity for lakhs of women in the national capital.
According to reports, the Delhi government plans to transfer the financial assistance directly into beneficiaries' bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
The BJP had promised to launch a registration portal for the scheme during its election campaign. In March, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta earmarked Rs 5,100 crore for the scheme in the Delhi Budget for FY2026–27, the reports added.
When will Delhi Lakshmi Yojana come into effect?
The Delhi government is planning to roll out the scheme around Raksha Bandhan on August 28, 2026, according to reports.
Although the allocation for the scheme has remained unchanged from the previous financial year, its implementation has been delayed. The launch was earlier expected by June but was postponed due to “lack of authentic data to cross check eligible beneficiaries”, the report said.
During a meeting chaired on the issue today, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reviewed the preparations for the launch and said the government is committed to ensuring that only genuine beneficiaries receive the benefits, another PTI report said.
- Women must register for the scheme using a Delhi-based Aadhaar number and belong to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.
- Women should be between 21 and 60 years of age.
- The beneficiary must have been a resident of Delhi for at least 10 years.
- Only one woman per family will be eligible for the benefit.
- As per the scheme, only the eldest woman in the family will be entitled to receive the financial assistance.
- The annual family income of the beneficiary should be below Rs 2.5 lakh.
Can any beneficiary be disqualified?
According to a PTI report, women who are already receiving a government pension or any other regular financial assistance will not be eligible for the scheme.
In addition, women or families with a criminal record will be disqualified from receiving benefits under the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana. This condition applies if any member of the family has a criminal record and is not limited to the female beneficiary alone. Further, families that own a four-wheeler will also be ineligible for the scheme.
How to apply for the scheme?
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Delhi government is developing a registration portal for the scheme.
The IT department is also building dedicated software to verify applications and identify eligible beneficiaries.
The government has not yet announced the list of required documents, but applicants are likely to need: Aadhaar card, Ration card, Address proof
