For the first time, the PMO complex includes a state-of-the-art conference facility, 'India House', designed to host international delegations and high-level meetings.

The PMO will now function from 'Seva Teerth', part of the Central Vista redevelopment project.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally moved the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to a new address, marking the end of nearly 80 years of operations from South Block at Raisina Hill in New Delhi. The PMO will now function from ‘Seva Teerth’, part of the Central Vista redevelopment project. The Prime Minister also inaugurated Seva Teerth along with Kartavya Bhavan 1 and 2.
Here are the 10 key points you need to know about the move:
1. End Of 80-Year Era
Since Independence in 1947, the PMO had operated from South Block, part of the British-era Secretariat complex designed by Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker. Every Prime Minister- from Jawaharlal Nehru to PM Modi- worked from there.

2. First Relocation Since Independence
This is the first time the PMO has shifted out of South Block, marking a historic administrative transition after nearly eight decades.
3. What ‘Seva Teerth’ Means
The name translates to “a sacred place of service", signalling what officials describe as a philosophical shift toward citizen-centric and service-oriented governance.
4. Part of Central Vista Project
The new complex is part of the broader Central Vista redevelopment, which includes the new Parliament building, Kartavya Path (formerly Rajpath), the Common Central Secretariat (Kartavya Bhavan) and the planned conversion of North and South Block into museums.

5. A Three-Building Executive Enclave
The Seva Teerth complex comprises three structures:
Seva Teerth-1: Houses the PMO with modern workspaces and ceremonial meeting halls.
Seva Teerth-2: Occupied by the Cabinet Secretariat.
Seva Teerth-3: Will host the National Security Council Secretariat and the Office of the National Security Advisor.
6. Dedicated ‘India House’
For the first time, the PMO complex includes a state-of-the-art conference facility, ‘India House’, designed to host international delegations and high-level meetings.
7. Designed For Efficiency
Unlike the closed corridors and cabins of South Block, Seva Teerth features open-plan interiors, encrypted communications systems, advanced security frameworks and integrated administrative spaces aimed at improving coordination. A PMO statement said fragmented offices and ageing infrastructure across Central Vista had led to inefficiencies, coordination challenges and rising maintenance costs- issues the new complex aims to address.
8. Sustainable And Green Design
The buildings comply with 4-Star GRIHA standards and incorporate renewable energy systems, water conservation mechanisms, waste management systems and high-performance building envelopes to reduce environmental impact.

9. Architectural Blend Of Tradition And Modernity
The structures use white and red sandstone, echoing India’s civic architectural traditions. Metal-clad domes inspired by Buddhist stupas, jali screens for filtered daylight and entrance motifs drawing from Chalukyan and Chennakeshava temple designs blend traditional Indian elements with contemporary construction.
10. Moving Beyond Colonial Symbolism
South Block was originally part of the British imperial capital inaugurated in 1931. Under colonial rule, it housed the Viceroy’s Secretariat. After Independence, it became the Prime Minister’s Secretariat and was renamed the PMO in 1977.
