Mallojula Venugopal Rao, alias Sonu, a Politburo member of CPI (Maoist) laid down weapons along with 60 Maoist cadres in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district on Tuesday.
The move comes as a major blow to the outfit and is a result of sustained operations under the leadership of Home Minister Amit Shah and state governments across the country.
In September, Sonu had issued a press release, indicating laying down of weapons. He also received support from a sizeable chunk of Maoist cadres in Chhattisgarh and elsewhere in the country.
