Sharmila criticises Modi over Melody toffees gifted to Italian PM Giorgia Meloni

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Y.S. Sharmila on Thursday (May 21, 2026) criticised what she called “an insane and insensitive display of showmanship” by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who gifted Melody toffees to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

In a statement, she said, “The height of shamelessness! BJP leaders are distributing Melody chocolates while ordinary people across the country continue to suffer from rising prices of petrol, cooking gas, and essential commodities.” She added, “Unemployment and shortages have gripped the nation, severely affecting the poor, lower, and middle classes.”

“Perhaps it should not come as a surprise,” she said, adding that Mr. Modi himself was busy enjoying and handing out chocolates for reels. “What else can be expected from party leaders? After all, they are nothing but AndhBhakts,” she said.
