‘Sikandar se bhi badi blockbuster’: Salman Khan fires at AR Murugadoss after tardiness comment, says his Madharaasi flopped despite ‘hero who came at 6am’

15 hours ago 18

The latest Weekend Ka Vaar episode of Bigg Boss 19 saw Salman Khan speak about his tiff with Arijit Singh for the first time. The actor also took the opportunity to blast Sikandar director AR Murugadoss for his comments blaming him for arriving late on set and also for the film’s box office failure. he also aimed at the film’s producer Sajid Nadiadwala. Sikandar flopped at the box office, sparking conversation about the star’s pull at the ticket windows and his professionalism.

Speaking during the episode, Salman admitted that the tiff with Arijit arose from a misunderstanding on his side, not Arijit’s. He called the singer his “good friend” and shared that since then, they had resolved their differences, with Arijit even singing for his film Tiger 3.

Arijit aur main bahut achhe dost hai. Woh misunderstanding thi aur woh misunderstanding mere side se huyi thi. Uske baad usne gaane bhi kiye mere liye. Tiger 3 mein kiya usne, agge Galwan (Battle of Galwan) mein kar raha hai (Arijit and I are very good friends. That misunderstanding had happened from my side. After that, he even sang songs for me — he sang in Tiger 3 and now he’s doing one in Galwan),” Salman said.

What happened between Arijit and Salman?

According to reports, at an award show in 2014, Arijit — who had just become famous with his track Tum Hi Ho — received an award from Salman. The singer looked exhausted to Salman after performing back-to-back shows. Seeing him tired, Salman joked, “So gaye the?” (Were you asleep)? To which Arijit responded, “Aap logon ne sula diya yaar” (“You guys put me to sleep”). While the audience laughed, the singer’s comment didn’t sit well with Salman.

After the incident, reports suggested that the Dabangg actor had removed Arijit’s versions of songs from several of his films, like Kick, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and Sultan. To ease the matter, Arijit even apologised to Salman in a social media post in 2016. However, the two never spoke about the incident again — until Salman addressed it on the latest Bigg Boss episode.

Salman Khan blasts AR Murugadoss

During Weekend Ka Vaar, comedian Ravi Gupta, who appeared as a guest on the show, asked Salman to name the movies he regrets doing. The actor named Suryavanshi (1992) and Nishchay (1992) but also defended his latest film Sikandar, which largely received negative reviews and failed at the box office.

Salman said, “Nayi mein se koi nahi hai… log kehte hain Sikandar par main nahi manta, uska plot bahut acha tha (I don’t regret doing any film in the recent times. People do say it can be Sikandar, but I don’t believe that. The plot of the film was good).”

He then slammed Sikandar director AR Murugadoss for his comments after the film’s failure and blaming Salman for coming late on set.

The actor said sarcastically, “Lekin kya hai na mein main set pe raat ke 9 baje pahuchta tha, toh usme gadbad ho gayi. Meri pasaliyan tooti thi, isne jo hamare director (AR Murugadoss) sahab hain unhone ye kaha. Lekin unki picture (Madharaasi) abhi ek release hui hai jisme actor 6 baje pahuchta tha (I used to arrive on sets by 9 PM and that created issues. This is what the director said but my rib was broken. Recently, another picture of his was released, and the actor of the film used to reach the set by 6).”

Salman also blamed the film’s producer Sajid Nadiadwala for not taking accountability. “Toh pahle toh ye picture thi Murugadoss aur Sajid Nadiadwala ki. Uske baad Sajid pehle kalti, Murugadoss wapas se hat gaya wahan se seedha South mein picture ki (Initially the film belonged to Murugadoss and Sajid Nadiadwala, but later Sajid escaped. Then, Murugadoss also left and made a film in South),” he said.

Taking a dig at Madharaasi’s box office performance, he added, “Madharaasi karke picture unhone direct ki hai jo ki release hui, bahut badi film hai aur utni hi badi….(smiles), Sikandar se badi blockbuster (He has directed a film called Madharaasi. It is a very big film and an even bigger blockbuster than Sikandar).”

What did AR Murugadoss say about Salman?

In an earlier interview with Valaipechu Voice after the release of Sikandar, Murugadoss had complained about Salman arriving late on set and how it affected his filmmaking. He said, “It’s not easy to shoot with a star. Even day scenes, we have to shoot at night because he turns up on set only by 8 PM. We are used to shooting right from early mornings, but that’s not how things work there,” adding, “If there were four kids in a scene, we would have to shoot with them at 2 AM, even if it’s the shot of them returning from school! They would become tired by that time and usually dozed off.”
