Six people were rescued safely after a fire broke out at a scrap godown in Meerpet, Hyderabad, during the early hours of Wednesday (July 15, 2026), with flames spreading to the first floor of an adjacent residential building before firefighters brought the blaze under control.
According to the Fire Department officials, a distress call was received at 12.01 a.m., reporting the fire at a scrap godown in Sri Ramana Colony, Nandhana Vanam, Meerpet. Four fire tenders from Hayathnagar, L.B. Nagar, Malakpet, Chandrayangutta and a water bowser from Gowliguda were pressed into service as the fire intensified.
The officials said the blaze originated in the scrap godown located beside a G+2 residential building, with the flames briefly spreading to the first floor of the house. Firefighters rescued six occupants from the building before the fire intensified, preventing any injuries or fatalities.

Hayathnagar Station Fire Officer Yadagiri said a preliminary investigation suggested that the fire was triggered by an electrical short circuit while new electrical wiring work was being carried out on a power pole near the premises. He said further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the fire. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
