Activist Sonam Wangchuk has ended his hunger strike after 26 days, saying the decision came after “long negotiations" and concerns over possible violence in the country.

Wangchuk broke his fast shortly after midnight on Thursday at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, Haryana. Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh were present when he ended the fast. His wife, Gitanjali, was also by his side.

On Friday, Wangchuk shared his first message after ending the fast in a post on X. He also posted a photograph from his hospital bed with Nadda, Singh and other leaders.
