Stock market (Sensex, Nifty) on April 13
After a strong recovery in the previous trading session, Indian equity markets faced selling pressure on April 13 following unsuccessful talks between the US and Iran, which ended without any agreement.
Domestic markets, which had briefly recovered last week and pushed the Nifty 50 back toward the 24,000 level, saw renewed weakness.
At the closing bell, the Sensex declined by 702.68 points, or 0.91 per cent, to settle at 76,847.57. The Nifty also fell by 207.95 points, or 0.86 per cent, ending the session at 23,842.65.
Broader markets witnessed sharper losses, with the Nifty Midcap 100 dropping over 2.5 per cent, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 fell nearly 2.8 per cent at the open, indicating widespread risk-off sentiment among investors.
