The Survey of India (SoI), the national nodal agency for geospatial data under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Digital University of Kerala (DUK).
The five-year MoU aims to promote academic and research collaboration in geo-informatics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning for automated feature extraction, Geodesy (Physical, Marine and Satellite), astronomy, and related engineering disciplines.
Under the agreement, SoI officers will have opportunities to pursue postgraduate and doctoral programmes at DUK, with provisions for joint supervision of research. The partnership also includes customised training programmes, expert lectures, collaborative research projects, co-authored publications, and joint participation in national and international initiatives.
A press note added that the students of DUK will benefit from internships, capstone projects and dissertation opportunities at SoI under joint mentorship. Both institutions will facilitate the shared use of research infrastructure, geospatial datasets, laboratories and library resources.
A Joint Coordination Committee will oversee implementation and review collaborative activities periodically.
The function was attended by DUK Vice Chancellor Saji Gopinath; Registrar A. Mujeeb; SoI Kerala and Lakshadweep wing in-charge Superintending Surveyor Avinash Mishra and Deputy Superintending Engineer R. Ratheesh.
