Teachers urged to use technology appropriately in classroom

“Today’s teachers should use technology creatively and appropriately in classroom teaching, said Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka University A.M. Khan.

He was inaugurating a one-day State-level capacity-building programme “Techniques for assessing and determining student learning values” at the university on Saturday.

The programme was organised in collaboration with the Department of Collegiate Education, the Regional Joint Director’s Office and the Karnataka Higher Education Council under the Prime Minister’s Higher Education initiative.

Prof. Khan said teachers should adapt different teaching methods according to students learning abilities and make effective use of technology in the classroom. He stressed that teachers must guide students, train them in life skills, and serve as role models while continuously updating their knowledge.

Director of the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Dharwad, S.R. Mahadev Prasanna said multimedia tools and technology have made learning more accessible. And teachers should recognise students creativity and potential and work to bridge the gap between teaching and learning.

President of the Karnataka University College Teachers’ AssociationManjunath Tallur said teachers must adapt to technological changes, but artificial intelligence cannot replace the role of a teacher and effective teaching depends on emotional connection with students and adequate infrastructure.

Presiding over the programme, , Joint Director of the Department of Collegiate Education, Karimunnisa Syed said imparting knowledge was the greatest form of service and stressed on the need for dynamic interaction with students and reforms in the education system to suit changing times.

K.R.V. Raja Subramanian, former dean of BITS Pilani and president of Radix Learning, and T. Nakod of Polcon Peregrines spoke on the role of artificial intelligence in teaching, learning, and student assessment.

About 600 teachers from colleges affiliated to Karnataka University participated. Deputy Director Lakshmipathi, coordinators S. Srinivas and Aftab Bhai, and Vijayalakshmi Danareddi were present.
