Health services are likely to be affected in Tripura in view of a strike called by the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists on May 20. They have three major demands — stop online sale of medicines; stop deep discounts from corporate-run industry; and stop the sale of spurious medicines.
The Tripura Chemists and Druggists Association, which is affiliated to the national body, on Sunday (May 10, 2026) said it would join the strike on May 20, and the approximately 3,000 pharmacies in Tripura would remain shut. They regretted the inconvenience people might face due to the strike.
Online sale of medicines and heavy discounts are ruining small- and medium-scale pharmacies, which threatened the employment of lakhs, sources in the industry said.
Meanwhile, the State Health and Family Welfare Department, and the State Drug Control Authority have reportedly taken measures to counter the impact of the strike.
