Triumph Tracker 400: Triumph Motorcycles has strengthened its presence in the Indian market with the introduction of the all-new Triumph Tracker 400, priced at Rs 2.46 lakh (ex-showroom). Despite its name hinting at a 400cc category, the motorcycle marks a shift in strategy for the brand, as it debuts a smaller 350cc engine tailored specifically for India.
The Tracker 400 draws strong inspiration from flat-track racing, blending classic design cues with a sporty, minimalistic look. It features a round LED headlamp paired with a compact visor, giving it a retro-modern appeal. The upright riding stance is enhanced by a flat handlebar and a single-piece flat seat, making it suitable for both urban commutes and spirited rides. Adding to its distinctive identity are design elements like a straight-lined fuel tank, racing-inspired graphics, a side-mounted number board displaying ‘400’ branding, and a twin upswept exhaust setup that reinforces its sporty character.
Features
The motorcycle is powered by a newly developed TR-series 350cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. This unit delivers 40 PS of power at 8,750 rpm and 32 Nm of peak torque at 7,500 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox, ensuring smooth power delivery and flexibility across different riding conditions. The decision to opt for a 350cc engine is strategic, allowing Triumph to benefit from India’s revised GST structure. Currently, motorcycles with engine capacities above 350cc attract a higher tax rate of 40%, whereas those at or below 350cc fall under a significantly lower 18% bracket. This enables the company to price the Tracker 400 more competitively in an already crowded segment.
In terms of hardware, the bike comes equipped with upside-down (USD) front forks and a rear monoshock suspension setup, aimed at delivering a balanced ride and handling experience. Braking is managed by a 300 mm disc at the front and a 230 mm disc at the rear, offering adequate stopping power. The feature list includes modern rider aids such as switchable traction control, dual-channel ABS, and a torque-assist clutch, enhancing both safety and convenience.
With this launch, Triumph appears to be focusing on affordability without compromising on performance and styling, making the Tracker 400 an attractive option for enthusiasts looking for a unique mid-capacity motorcycle.
