Two arrested With MDMA and ganja at Vizhinjam in Thiruvananthapuram

Excise officials have arrested two persons near Vizhinjam in Thiruvananthapuram with alleged possession of 51 grams of MDMA and 2.6 grams of ganja.

The accused duo have been identified as Jishnu, 30, a native of Chittarikkal in Kasaragod, and Sahalu Rahman, 36, from Karuvarakundu in Malappuram.

According to officials of the Neyyattinkara excise team that apprehended them, the duo was intercepted during a vehicle inspection conducted around 5.30 p.m. on Thursday at Mukkola near Vizhinjam. The accused were travelling in a rented car and had reportedly arrived from Ernakulam.

They are suspected to have targeted tourists who visit popular destinations such as Kovalam and Poovar to peddle the contraband.

The MDMA was purportedly concealed inside a bag carried by Jishnu, while the ganja was recovered from Sahalu Rahman. The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth around ₹3.5 lakh in the illegal market.

The mobile phones used by the accused persons were also taken into custody for further investigation.
