'Uniform Doesn't Lessen Pain': Delhi Police's Message After CJP Agitation Leaves 118 Personnel Injured

Delhi Police shared an X post saying "A uniform does not make a person feel less pain" after violent clashes during the CJP protest.

Amid continuing tensions over the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protests at Jantar Mantar and allegations of police excesses, the Delhi Police on Thursday shared a strongly worded message on social media, condemning attacks on its personnel and stressing that violence has no place in a democracy.

In a post on X, the force highlighted the human side of policing, saying officers on duty also endure pain while carrying out their responsibilities.

“A uniform does not make a person feel less pain. Behind every badge is a beating heart, a family and a promise to serve. Seeing on-duty police personnel assaulted is deeply disturbing."

The Delhi Police further said mentioned, “Disagreement can have a voice. Violence should never have a place."

The message comes days after violent confrontations between protesters and security personnel during the CJP’s ‘Sansad Chalo’ march towards Parliament, where police resorted to crowd-control measures, including lathi-charge and tear gas, after demonstrators allegedly attempted to breach security barricades.

The clashes have since triggered a war of words between the Delhi Police and the CJP, with both sides accusing each other of provoking the violence.

According to Delhi Police, 118 police personnel, including senior officers, sustained injuries during the protests after protesters allegedly resorted to stone-pelting and vandalised police vehicles.

Among those injured were ACP (Punjabi Bagh) Jai Prakash, ACP (Connaught Place) Vivek Bhagat, Inspector Nand Kishore and several other police personnel.

According to the medical report issued by RML Hospital, ACP Vivek Bhagat suffered multiple bruises on both his upper and lower limbs, injuries to his shoulder and swelling over the parieto-occipital region at the back of his head.

ACP Jai Prakash, who sustained an injury to his forehead while performing law-and-order duties near Jantar Mantar, said that one of the stones struck him when police attempted to stop protesters from marching towards Parliament.

Delhi Police have registered a case in connection with the alleged violence and stone-pelting in the Connaught Place area.

Officials said the force has so far lodged 10 FIRs across different police station jurisdictions in New Delhi district over incidents linked to the ongoing demonstrations.

The force has maintained that several police personnel who were injured alleged that “unruly elements" had mixed with the protesters and were responsible for violating police directions, pelting stones and damaging public property.

The latest social media post also comes amid criticism faced by the Delhi Police over the deployment of personnel in plain clothes during the agitation.

Protesters had alleged that police officials dressed in civilian clothing forcibly picked up climate activist Sonam Wangchuk from the protest site on July 18 and admitted him to Safdarjung Hospital.

The CJP also accused plainclothes personnel of participating in the alleged lathi-charge on students and protesters during the Parliament march.

Following the controversy, Delhi Police issued fresh instructions directing all officers and personnel deployed at Jantar Mantar to report for duty in proper police uniform while carrying out law-and-order responsibilities.

The CJP has rejected the police’s allegations regarding the violence.

Party representative Abhijeet Dipke alleged that people were being sent from outside to disrupt the month-long protest and claimed BJP workers were behind the stone-pelting in an attempt to defame the agitation.

Despite the competing claims, heavy security continues to remain in place at Jantar Mantar, where the CJP is continuing its protest demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET paper leak controversy.
