US-Iran News

US-Iran News: The United States intensified pressure on Iran overnight, launching additional strikes against targets linked to attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and resuming a naval blockade on vessels travelling to and from Iranian ports. The moves came amid shifting US messaging on maritime transit arrangements in the strategic waterway.

Iran also asserted that it would fully manage the Strait of Hormuz during wartime, citing national security concerns. Rising uncertainty surrounding the standoff lifted oil prices, with both Brent and US crude futures posting gains in early trading.

Here are the top five developments related to the US-Iran conflict.

US launches additional strikes on Iran

At 3 pm ET today, US Central Command forces began an additional round of strikes against Iran to further degrade Iranian capabilities used to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

US changes position on Strait of Hormuz transit fee

On Monday morning, Trump announced the resumption of an American naval blockade on Iranian shipping. He stated that all vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, including those of US allies, would be required to pay a 20 per cent fee to reimburse the US for costs associated with providing security in the region.

The following day, he withdrew the proposal and instead said he would pursue trade and investment deals with America's Gulf allies, indicating that the US would offer safe passage through the Strait in return.

US resumes naval blockade on Iranian shipping

US forces resumed the naval blockade against vessels travelling to and from Iranian ports and coastal areas today at 4 pm ET.

More than 20 US Navy warships and hundreds of military aircraft are currently operating across the Middle East. American forces remain vigilant, lethal, and ready.

Iran says it will manage the Strait of Hormuz during wartime

In televised remarks, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi commented on the Strait of Hormuz, a key point of tension between the US and Iran, Al Jazeera reported.

“In wartime, we will fully manage the Strait of Hormuz,” Gharibabadi said, according to state broadcaster IRIB.

He said Iran’s actions would not violate Oman’s sovereignty but were necessary for security reasons, adding, “We cannot allow it to be used for actions contrary to national security.”

Oil prices rise amid US-Iran uncertainty

Crude oil prices extended gains amid growing uncertainty between the US and Iran. WTI crude futures rose 0.6 per cent to USD 79.85, while Brent crude futures traded around USD 85.
