Video Shows Moment Terrorists Open Fire On Police Party In J&K's Anantnag

Anantnag Attack: A 35-year-old Jammu and Kashmir policeman was shot dead after suspected terrorists opened fire on a police party in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday.

The firing took place at around 12.30 pm at Lal Chowk in Anantnag town, where a police party was deployed for Amarnath Yatra security duty.

A CCTV footage has also surfaced on social media platforms capturing the moment when suspected terrorits opened fire at the police.

The deceased head constable was identified as Aashiq Hussain, a resident of Beerwah in Budgam district. He was rushed to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Anantnag, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Following the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a massive search operation to trace the assailants.

The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow outfit of Lashkar-e-Toiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack through a social media post.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister expressed grief over the incident and said, “Deeply saddened by the death in the line of duty of Head Constable Ashiq Hussain of IRP 3rd Battalion J&K Police. HC Hussain made the ultimate sacrifice in a cowardly terror attack in Anantnag area of South Kashmir. I unequivocally condemn this attack & send my heartfelt condolences to the members of his family. May Allah grant him the highest place in Jannat."

There is heavy deployment of security forces in Anantnag town amid ongoing Amarnath Yatra. The Yatra remains suspended for last four days due to inclement weather in Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier this month, Anantnag Police detained an alleged terror overground worker (OGW) after a facial recognition system (FRS) deployed at the Nunwan base camp flagged the suspect during security screening.

Officials had described the interception as an example of technology-driven surveillance strengthening the multi-layered security grid for the annual pilgrimage.
