Vijay oath-taking ceremony: Actor-turned-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder C Joseph Vijay was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday, ushering in a major political shift in the state.

His victory marks the first time in nearly seven decades that a party other than the DMK or AIADMK has formed the government in the southern state. Vijay has become the ninth Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at 10 am, where Vijay and nine senior TVK leaders took oath as ministers. Thousands of supporters packed the venue, turning the stadium into a celebration ground as chants and cheers filled the air.

Which Parties Are Supporting TVK?

TVK emerged as the single-largest party in the 234-member Assembly with 108 seats. The party later secured the backing of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), pushing its strength to 120 and comfortably crossing the majority mark. After obtaining letters of support from Congress, CPI, CPI(M), VCK and IUML, Vijay met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who formally invited him to form the government. Follow for live updates

TVK MLA V Pandi said the new administration would focus on women’s welfare and employment opportunities for youth, while promising a “clean and pure government" free of corruption.

Emotions also ran high at the home of Vijay’s father, filmmaker S A Chandrasekhar. Vijay’s mother, Shoba Chandrasekhar, expressed confidence in her son, saying, “Vijay will lead this well; I have full faith in him".

With his swearing-in, Vijay also became the first actor in Tamil Nadu’s history to secure a majority mandate and become Chief Minister in his electoral debut.
