A video circulating on social media from Solapur has sparked controversy after it allegedly showed a 14-year-old boy pressing the button on an electronic voting machine inside a polling booth during the Zilla Parishad elections on Saturday.
The footage, reportedly shot at Yashwant Nagar in Akluj, appears to show the boy standing beside his father, candidate Arjun Sinh Mohite Patil, and seemingly casting a vote. In response to the backlash, Mohite Patil said his son merely wanted to observe how voting is done, and that he had sought permission from polling officials to let him stand beside him during the process.
The incident has raised concerns over electoral integrity and compliance with voting laws in Zilla Parishad polls, as the legal voting age in India is 18. Election authorities may investigate and take action based on their findings.
In a similar episode elsewhere in the state, election officials have sought explanations after a legislator was seen voting in the presence of his minor son, also triggering scrutiny of poll booth protocols.
