VTU Kalaburagi showcases innovation at interdisciplinary project exhibition

The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Centre for PG Studies and Regional Office, Kalaburagi, organised an Interdisciplinary Project-Based Learning (IPBL) Project Exhibition on Friday, showcasing innovative student projects aimed at addressing real-world engineering, societal and industrial challenges.

The exhibition was organised under the leadership of S. Vidyashankar, Vice-Chancellor of VTU, Belagavi, and the guidance of Prasad B. Rampure, Registrar, VTU.

The programme was virtually inaugurated by Mr. Vidyashankar in the presence of Shubhangi D.C., Regional Director, VTU Centre for PG Studies and Regional Office, Kalaburagi; Sujay Mudgal, cluster head, K-Tech Innovation Hub, Kalaburagi, Karnataka Digital Economy Mission; Abdul Waheed, programme coordinator; Brijbhushan, programme coordinator, Department of Civil Engineering, besides faculty members, students and other guests.

In his inaugural address, Mr. Vidyashankar said the IPBL initiative introduced by the VTU aims to bridge classroom learning with practical applications. He said such project exhibitions nurture innovation, critical thinking, teamwork, entrepreneurship and industry-oriented skills while encouraging students to develop practical solutions to contemporary challenges.

Addressing the gathering, Ms. Shubhangi said the initiative provides an excellent platform for students from different disciplines to collaborate, innovate and demonstrate their technical capabilities. She appreciated the efforts of students and faculty mentors in implementing interdisciplinary learning and reaffirmed the VTU’s commitment to experiential and outcome-based education.

Mr. Mudgal commended the creativity and innovative spirit displayed by the students and encouraged them to transform their ideas into products and start-ups that could contribute to technological advancement and societal development.

The exhibition featured 54 interdisciplinary projects, including 20 hardware-based projects and 34 software projects. The exhibits ranged from working models and engineering devices to mobile applications, web applications, artificial intelligence-based systems and other innovative solutions designed to address practical engineering and industrial problems.

Students and faculty members from engineering colleges and schools across the region visited the exhibition and interacted with the participants. The organisers said the event provided exposure to interdisciplinary learning, emerging technologies and innovative engineering practices while offering students an opportunity to demonstrate their technical expertise, creativity and teamwork.
