Team India inflicted a painful defeat of 61 runs on Pakistan in the Group A fixture of the T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday at the R. Premadasa Stadium. The match did not live up to the hype that was generated in the backdrop of the clash, as Suryakumar Yadav's men dominated every facet of the game and garnered yet another one-sided victory over their so-called arch-rivals. With the win, India extended their head-to-head lead over Pakistan in the T20 World Cup to 8-1 and also progressed to the Super 8 stage of the marquee event.
Pakistan fans celebrate with Indian fans
Following the culmination of the match, Indian fans began celebrating, and the scenes of merriment were evident throughout the country. Among the many clips that have been posted, a video of fans dancing to the tunes of the famous patriotic sports song "Chak De India" is making significant waves on social media, as it shows rare and startling occasion when some Pakistani fans also joined Indians in the celebration. Here's the video posted on social media.
It is a an unprecedented video because India and Pakistan are bitter rivals, and fans of their respective cricket teams tend to be hostile to each other. However, it is also a representation that the individuals of both countries can co-exist on what seems to be a foreign land.
Note, it is a video shared on social media and attempts are being made to confirm the credibility of the clip.
India qualify for Super 8s
So far, it has turned out to be a predictable tournament as far as Team India is concerned. India had a wobbly start to the tournament as batting did not click in the game against the USA. The concerns remained prevalent against Namibia as well, yet they fetched a near-satisfactory win both times. India assessed the conditions well on a spin-friendly wicket on Sunday and displayed a mature batting performance to post 175/7 against Pakistan. After restricting Pakistan to a paltry 114 in 18 overs, India cemented its place at the top of Group A table and will look to finish the group stage on a high by beating the Netherlands on Wednesday.
In the Super 8s, the defending champions India will face a much more daunting challenge. They are placed in a group alongside the West Indies, and potentially with Australia and South Africa based on their qualification. Thus, the business end of the tournament is about to begin, and Team India will be expected to go all the way to the final and retain their title.
