‘We See Karnataka As Healthy Competitor’: Telangana IT Minister At Rising Bharat Summit

Telangana IT Minister Babu said that every state has sufficient resources and offers unique advantages to investors.

Rising Bharat Summit: Telangana IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu on Friday said that Hyderabad views Karnataka as a “healthy competitor" in attracting investments, asserting that investors ultimately choose locations based on talent, infrastructure and ease of doing business rather than competition between states.

While speaking at News18’s Rising Bharat India Summit (South Edition), Babu said that every state has sufficient resources and offers unique advantages to investors.

“We see Karnataka as a healthy competitor. Most investors identify the land, talent and infrastructure available across different states before making investment decisions," he said.

The IT Minister said that the Telangana government has focused on talent creation over the past two to three years to prepare the workforce for global industries.

Highlighting Hyderabad’s infrastructure, Babu said that the city has invested heavily in connectivity and digital infrastructure. He said the Outer Ring Road enables connectivity across Hyderabad within 40 to 50 minutes, while optical fibre connectivity has been extended to the remotest villages in the state.

Pitching Telangana as a preferred destination for global companies, Babu claimed that Hyderabad accounts for 40 per cent of India’s greenfield Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and hosts centres across more than 10 industry verticals, including software, aerospace, defence, pharmaceuticals, hospitality and beauty technology. He added that the banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) sector is also witnessing rapid growth in the city.

He further said that Telangana’s single-window clearance mechanism allows approvals for industries within 21 days, adding that applications are treated as “deemed approved" if clearances are not issued within the stipulated timeframe.

On the other hand, Babu alleged that Telangana sometimes faces “step-motherly treatment" from the Centre, particularly in semiconductor-related investments. He said Hyderabad is home to several leading chip design companies and appealed to the Union government to extend equal policy support to states such as Telangana for semiconductor manufacturing projects.

He said positive encouragement from the Centre would help states leverage their strengths and further boost investments in emerging sectors.
