Victor Wembanyama exploded for 27 points as the Spurs crushed the Timberwolves 126-97 to move within one win of the Western Conference Finals.

Just 48 hours after being at the centre of controversy, Victor Wembanyama responded the only way superstars do: by completely taking over a playoff game.

The towering Spurs phenom delivered another jaw-dropping postseason masterclass on Tuesday night, dropping 27 points as the San Antonio Spurs crushed the Minnesota Timberwolves 126-97 to move within one win of the Western Conference Finals.

And honestly? The game was practically over before Minnesota even settled in.

Wembanyama, back after narrowly avoiding suspension following his controversial ejection in Game 4, exploded right from the opening tip. The 7ft 4in Frenchman torched the Timberwolves for 16 first-quarter points as San Antonio stormed into an early 24-9 lead and never truly looked back.

By the end of the night, Wemby had stuffed the stat sheet with 27 points, 17 rebounds, five assists and three blocks.

The dominant win gives San Antonio a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series ahead of Game 6 in Minneapolis on Friday.

If there were any doubts about how Wembanyama would respond after Sunday’s ugly incident involving Minnesota’s Naz Reid, he erased them within minutes.

The Spurs superstar had been ejected in Game 4 after smashing an elbow into Reid’s throat during a heated exchange. But after escaping further punishment from the league, he returned with purpose, and Minnesota had absolutely no answer.

While Wembanyama stole the spotlight, San Antonio’s depth once again proved decisive. Keldon Johnson added 21 points, De’Aaron Fox chipped in with 18, while rookie guard Stephon Castle continued his breakout postseason with 17 points.

Anthony Edwards led Minnesota with 20 points, while Jaden McDaniels and Julius Randle added 17 apiece.
