“The biggest VAR decision in Premier League history."

That’s the phrase dominating English football after West Ham United’s dramatic late equaliser against Arsenal was controversially ruled out on Sunday — a moment that may ultimately define both the title race and the relegation battle.

And now, West Ham want answers.

According to reports from BBC Sport and Sky Sports, the Hammers are preparing to contact the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) to seek clarification over the decision that denied them a potentially season-defining point at the London Stadium.

The club are also expected to request access to the audio exchange between referee Chris Kavanagh and VAR official Darren England during the review process.

What Happened?

With seconds remaining in stoppage time, Callum Wilson appeared to rescue a dramatic equaliser for West Ham after smashing home from close range following a chaotic corner.

The goal sparked wild celebrations inside the stadium and looked set to seriously dent Arsenal’s title hopes while handing West Ham a massive boost in their fight for survival.

But the celebrations did not last long.

VAR intervened immediately, sending Kavanagh to the pitchside monitor to review a potential foul on Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya. After replays showed West Ham forward Pablo Fornals making contact with Raya during Jarrod Bowen’s delivery, the referee ruled the goal out.

The decision instantly sparked fierce debate across the football world, with many arguing Raya initiated most of the contact himself in a crowded penalty area.

Arsenal Close In On Glory

Instead of dropping crucial points, Arsenal escaped with a tense 1-0 victory thanks to Leandro Trossard’s decisive goal earlier in the game.

The result moved Mikel Arteta’s side five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

Pep Guardiola’s team still have a game in hand against Crystal Palace, but even victory there would leave City two points behind with only two matches remaining.

For West Ham, though, the defeat was potentially devastating. The Hammers remain in 18th place, one point behind Tottenham Hotspur, who still have a game to play.
