Woman dies in roof collapse in Vijayapura

A 55-year-old woman died when the roof of her old house collapsed in Nidgundi in Vijayapura district on Thursday.

The house that Mahadevi Varad lived in had suffered damage in the heavy rain the town received a week ago. She was sleeping inside the house when the roof collapsed at night. She was trapped under the debris.

Her husband Shivanand Varad, escaped unhurt as he was sleeping outside the house.

Shivanand Varad and some neighbours tried to remove the damaged roof and shift the woman to hospital. But she died on the way.

The police and revenue officials visited the spot. A case has been registered in the Nidgundi Police Station.
