'You Awakened Nation's Conscience': CJP After Sonam Wangchuk Ends Fast, Says Protest Will Continue

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke thanked Wangchuk for his "extraordinary courage and sacrifice" and said his decision to put his life on the line had drawn attention to the cause.

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) on Friday praised activist Sonam Wangchuk after he ended his 26-day hunger strike, saying his sacrifice had “awakened the conscience of the nation".

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke shared a post on X shortly after Wangchuk broke his fast after midnight on Friday. He thanked Wangchuk for his “extraordinary courage and sacrifice" and said his decision to put his life on the line had drawn attention to the cause.

“We are relieved and grateful that Sonam sir has ended his hunger strike after 26 days," Dipke wrote.

“Thank you, sir, for your extraordinary courage and sacrifice. By putting your own life on the line, you awakened the conscience of an entire nation. Your life is far too precious to this country," he added.

CJP Says Protest Will Continue

Dipke further added that the CJP’s “peaceful protest" at Jantar Mantar in Delhi will continue until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns.

The CJP has been holding a sit-in protest since last month at Jantar Mantar over the NEET paper leak, demanding accountability and changes in the education system. The group has also been seeking the resignation of Pradhan over the issue.

Wangchuk joined the CJP-led protest and began his indefinite hunger strike on June 28 in solidarity with students. He was later shifted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram after being forcibly removed from the protest site.

Wangchuk ended his fast on Thursday night in the presence of Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh. After ending his fast, he said the decision came after “long negotiations" and concerns over possible violence in the country.

“This was done after long negotiations on various conditions and in view of possible violence in the country. I will explain the conditions in detail in a separate video very soon. Meanwhile I urge you all to stay very vigillant about not allowing violence of any kind anywhere," the activist wrote on X.
