According to the woman's family, the couple had been in a relationship for nearly eight years after meeting through social media.

Her family claimed that Keerthi had wished to be cremated in her boyfriend Sai Sumanth's native village of Ponduru
The family of a 24-year-old woman from Andhra Pradesh, who died by suicide, brought her body to her boyfriend’s residence in Prakasam district, demanding that he perform a posthumous marriage ritual before her last rites.
Addagalla Keerthi, a software engineer from Guntur district, ended her life by hanging herself in her PG room in Mumbai. Her family alleged that the incident followed her boyfriend’s refusal to marry her. She took the extreme step on July 14, The Times of India reported.
According to the woman’s family, the couple had been in a relationship for nearly eight years after meeting through social media.
Her family claimed that Keerthi had wished to be cremated in her boyfriend Sai Sumanth’s native village of Ponduru. They brought her body from Mumbai to the village and requested that he tie a mangalsutra around her body before the funeral rites.
Sai, who reportedly works in Qatar, was not present when the family reached his residence. Police said an argument broke out between the two families, following which Keerthi’s relatives staged a protest outside the house.
“Keerthi’s family members staged a dharna in front of the house with her body, demanding that Sai return and tie the knot. After Sai’s family members agreed to allow her last rites to be performed in Ponduru, Keerthi’s family members finally conducted the cremation in the village," the police said.
According to Tanguturu Sub-Inspector Phani Bhushan, Sai’s family later agreed to allow Keerthi’s last rites to be performed in Ponduru. The cremation was subsequently carried out in the village.
Mumbai Police also have registered a case in connection with Keerthi’s death, and further investigation is underway.
